Home Waste Audit
February 3 @ 7:00 pm – March 10 @ 8:00 pm

Learn how to do your best waste management… at home!
Ever find yourself staring at your household waste, wondering if you can or can’t recycle something, which items belong in each bin and how you can reduce the waste you generate at home?
This February, the popular University of Toronto Trash Team’s Home Waste Audit returns and invites you to challenge yourself to reduce your waste as you increase your waste literacy!
By taking part in the Home Waste Audit, you will learn more about plastic pollution and its impacts, the available waste streams in your municipality, and challenge yourself to decrease your waste generation at home.
How it works:
- The Home Waste Audit takes place over two weeks from Sunday, February 8 until Saturday, February 21, 2026. Each week you will record what items you dispose of in your garbage and recycling bins.
- You will be invited to two webinars, taking place before and after completing your Home Waste Audit.
- We will also share two short online surveys, one before and the other during your Home Waste Audit.
Webinars:
Webinar 1 – Introduction to the Home Waste Audit: Tuesday, February 3 at 7 pm EST.
The first webinar takes place the week before starting your Home Waste Audit to provide a background on plastic pollution, the importance of reducing and correctly sorting your household waste, and instructions for how to take par
Webinar 2 – Results from the Home Waste Audit: Tuesday, March 10 at 7 pm EST.
The second webinar takes place a few weeks after you complete your Home Waste Audit to share the final results, learn about everyone’s collective experience and to put this into broader context.
***Registering for a ticket will automatically register you for both webinars.***
Once registered, please check your Eventbrite emails for complete instructions and resources.
